August 20, 2015 -- The Wyman Series and the Series on Innovation & Excellence at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls will present the “UWRF Celebrates The Year of Mexico” kickoff event on Thursday, Sept. 3, beginning at 5 p.m. in the tent on the University Center mall on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The event is part of the “Year of” program at UW-River Falls. The kickoff begins at 5 p.m. with Year of Mexico educational booths on display and live Mexican entertainment including Mariachi Estrella De MN, Grupo de Danza, and Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca from 6-7:30 p.m.

The educational booths include Family Life in Mexico, Education Abroad Opportunities, Library Book Club, Children’s Activities, Geography of Mexico, UWRF Alumni Relations, UWRF “Year of” program, Mariachi Loco, Teacher Education Opportunities in Mexico and Spring Break in Pueblo.

Mexican themed food and beverages will be available for purchase. Complimentary chips and salsa, aqua fresca’s and Mexican desserts will be available as supplies last.

The "Year Of" program allows faculty, students, and community participants to break down stereotypes and connect across cultures. During the year, various educational and cultural activities will highlight a specific country and engage faculty and staff members, students and others in raising awareness of that country.

Sections of free parking will be available in Pay Lot 1 at the corner of Second and Spring streets on a first come, first serve basis. All other parking lots on campus require a permit or fee.
